Crunchy Pecans Cereal

Packed with nuts and flaxseeds, and sweetened with dried cherries, orange zest, and agave syrup, these bars are a wholesome, energizing snack that’s high in fiber.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes, plus about 30 minutes to cool

Baking Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour and 15 minutes

Makes 12 bars

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 cup Great Grains Crunchy Pecans cereal
  • 2/3 cup whole raw almonds, very coarsely chopped
  • 2/3 cup raw pecan halves and pieces
  • 2/3 cup raw walnut halves and pieces
  • 2/3 cup dried tart cherries
  • 2 tablespoons golden flaxseeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine-grained sea salt
  • Grated zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup agave syrup

  1. Position the rack in the center of the oven ad preheat the oven to 325°F. Line an 8-inch square pan with foil, allowing some foil to hang over 2 edges of the pan, then spray the foil with cooking spray.
  2. Combine the cereal, nuts, cherries, flaxseeds, and salt in a large bowl. Mix in the orange zest. Add the syrup and stir to coat. Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and pat the mixture firmly into the pan.
  3. Bake until the mixture is golden brown but not hard, about 35 minutes. Cool the pan on a cooling rack until the nut and oat mixture is set but still pliable, about 20 minutes. Using the overhanging sides of the foil, lift the mixture from the pan and press on the mixture to help compact it. With the foil still attached, cut the nut and oat sheet into 12 bars. Allow the bars to cool completely on the rack.
  4. Remove the foil from the bars and store them in an airtight container.
