Red Velvet Doughnut Holes

  • 1 3/4 Cups Flour
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 2 T Cocoa
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/4. Tsp Salt
  • 2T. Melted and cooled Butter
  • 1 large well beaten Egg
  • 1/3 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp Vinegar
  • 2 to 3 drops Red food coloring
  • Vegetable oil (enough to reach 2in high in pan)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2T cinnamon

  1. Mix dry ingredients until well blended.
  2. Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and add the egg, butter, buttermilk and vinegar.
  3. Incorporate the wet ingredients with the dry until well blended.
  4. Form into a ball and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.  You can leave it overnight if preferred.  Roll out dough into a log and cut into 6-12 pieces.
  5. In a pan, heat vegetable oil to 375 degrees. Use a candy thermometer as temperature is important.  While you are waiting for the oil to heat up, mix the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.  Cook 6 dough balls at a time for approximately 1 minute.  Drain on paper towel then roll in cinnamon sugar.
